Letter from Albert Hannemann

When Eric asked me to join him to create the "Digging Education" program for the Dig For Kids Foundation in 2000 (right
beforeheading to Sydney to win the Gold medal), I jumped at the opportunity. I was excited to be able to put something together that would really impact kids in a positive way.

I too, grew up in an underserved community and I wish I had the opportunity to attend an after school mentoring program like Dig for Kids. Our goal is to provide a safe place for kids to improve their study habits and set college goals. We introduce them to the sport of volleyball, improve their physical fitness levels and knowledge of nutrition. D4K also teaches them the importance of working together with their peers, and most importantly, to dream big and be positive assets in their communities.

I am very proud of our accomplishments and how far we have come as a program.  We have taught hundreds of children that they can succeed at anything they put their minds to.  We have provided 16 college scholarships and expect this number to increase significantly as the program expands.

I am consistently rewarded by the  smiles on the kids faces as they walk into our classroom each week.  This is what keeps me motivated to continue to provide and improve Dig For Kids year after year. Please help us in our quest to enhance these children's chances to succeed in life.

Thank you,
Albert Hannemann

Fall 2007 Recap
group 2007

This past session was the biggest yet! We had over 100 kids in our program this past fall program. The children came  from 6 neighboring elementary schools. The program took place at Carson High School where we use their classrooms and their gym. We were able to get donations from Asics shoes, Gatorade, Smart Water, Wilson and computers from LA Unified School District.
