About Albert

  AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Champion

Known to his friends and fans as “AL-B”, Albert Hannemann “is one of the most entertaining players in all of beach volleyball”, according to TV commentator Chris Marlowe. Because Albert wears his heart on his sleeve he is a lot of fun to watch, ensuring a great match and outstanding entertainment all weekend. Albert is widely known as, “Bar none, the biggest promoter of the sport”.

A U.S. Olympic Festival Gold Medalist and the champion of his hometown Hermosa Beach Open, Albert has been playing pro beach volleyball for 15 years on the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) circuit. He is also the celebrity emcee at the biggest model/volleyball tournament in the world, “VolleyPalooza” held in Miami Beach every year. Additionally AL-B produces the volleyball events in March for Spring Break 08 in Panama City, Florida and South Padre Island, Texas where over 700,000 college students attend every year.

“Mr. December” in Volleyball magazine’s calendar, Albert is one of the most recognizable players in the world not just because of his successful career, but also as a result of his business ventures and personal appearances. His company — volleyballvacations.com — offers professional volleyball instruction for adult players several times a year in the Caribbean, Hawaii, Mexico and California. From the great success of Volleyball Vacations comes Albert’s newest venture- Unique Sports Vacations. The same basic principal remains, however AL-B will now host many different sport-disciplines all together at each resort bringing hundreds of like-minded athletes together to share their love for sports and fitness.

Albert invests a tremendous amount of his energy promoting the sport to children. He spends a great deal of time in his role as Vice-President and program director of the Dig for Kids Foundation. This nonprofit foundation focuses on giving children from under-served communities an opportunity to excel in school and volleyball. Albert also serves as a Big Brother with Big Brothers of L.A and teaches volleyball to children in Los Angeles and at the Boys and Girls Club of Venice for the AAF (Amateur Athletic Foundation). You will also find Albert coaching the varsity girls and boys volleyball teams at Carson High School as well as teaching a clinic series to children and adults year around in various cities worldwide.

In addition to appearances on Baywatch, MTV, E!TV, Extra and Inside Edition, Albert just finished acting in a major role in the upcoming volleyball film “Green Flash” that will be released in 2008 immediately after the summer Olympics. He has worked as a spokesperson and professional model for Calvin Klein, J-Crew, Polo, Hugo Boss and Versace. Albert has also been featured in campaigns for Nautica, Abercrombie and Fitch and the GAP.
